Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Daley talked about current issues including the budget impasse. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Greenstein and Mr. Lambro discussed current issues, including congressional retirements and budget negotiations. Professor Brown discussed President Thomas Jefferson, and remote interviews were conducted from towns named after Jefferson. In the final segment, Ms. Brown and Mr. Lauterberg discussed states budgets and the effects of the government shutdown. close
