Represetatives debated a continuing resolution, H.R. 1643, which would pay government workers for the elapsed time during the past shutdown and until January 26, 1996. It also funds AFDC to March 15th and some other social programs, including veterans' benefits through the rest of the fiscal year. Democratsoffered several amendments to fund additional programs. The House passed the measure. close
