Participants gathered to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a memorial breakfast. In his keynote speech, Jesse Jackson spoke about the continuing struggle for civil rights and political power by African-Americans. He also criticized those who portray Dr. King as too pacifistic rather than activist. He also emphasized the need for African-Americans to keep dreaming about all they can be individually and communally. Mayor Marion Barry also presented awards for community service. close
