Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Rudin talked about current issues, including the budget debate and the 1996 presidential race. In the next segment, Mr. Ritchie talked about why Congress decided to move the inauguration to 20 January. In the next segment, Mr. McDowell and Mr. Brown talked about their memories of and perspectives on inaugural ceremonies. Several clips from past inaugurations were shown courtesy of the National Archives. Mr. Scouten talked about the activites at the White House during a typical inauguration day. Mr. Groppel talked about the military role in the inauguration. close
