Secretary of Education, Richard Riley and President Bill Clinton honored state teachers of the year from around the nation. In his remarks, President Clinton spoke about the progress toward a balanced budget and how it would help educators by stimulating economic growth and providing more revenue for schools. He also emphasized that good teachers were a major component of education, no matter how education technology changes. Mary Beth Blegen, a humanities teacher from Minnesota, received the National Teacher of the Year Award. close
