Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Baumann talked about the morning headlines including gas prices, welfare, and the minimum wage. In the next segment, Senator Gregg talked by remote connection about Commerce Department funding for fiscal year 1997. In the newspaper roundtable, Senator Cochran and former Senator Metzenbaum talked about current issues, including gasoline prices and international politics. Ms. Kelly talked by telephone about political issues and her first vote. In the following segment, Rep. Skaggs talked by remote connection about policy toward Iranian arm shipments to Bosnia. In the final segment, Mr. Adams and Mr. Rieder talked about the magazine Common Quest, a publication concentrating on black-jewish relations. close
