Committee members gathered to debate final language on the 1997 concurrent budget resolution which is designed to balance the budget by 2002. The Republican leadership proposals contain both less spending and tax reductions than the budget which Congress passed in November 1995 and President Clinton vetoed. After opening statements by Representatives Kasich and Sabo, the members debated the procedures for the markup. Then several Republican members summarized sections of the legislation for their colleagues and took their questions. close
