Mr. Kotlowitz spoke about the problem of youth violence in major U.S. cities. He emphasized that the future of children who grow up in inner city areas is the largest challenge facing the U.S. He argued that the breakdown of community ties and values in these areas has led to the high frequency of violence. After his prepared remarks, he took questions from the audience. He is the author of There Are No Children Here: The Story of Two Boys Growing Up in the Other America, a book about two brothers who grew up in Henry Horner homes in Chicago. close
