Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. First, calls from viewers across the country concerning campaigns and other national issues. Ms. Glasser talked by remote connection about current congressional issues. Mr. Gutierrez talked by remote connection about the upcoming “Welcome Home” march to be held in Washington, D.C. for Latino-Americans. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Hart and Congressman McIntosh talked about investigations going on in Washington and other current issues. Mr. Fisher talked by telephone about his political views and activities. In the next segment, Ms. Moon talked about the solvency of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds. In the final segment, Mr. Reed talked about the role of religious conservatives in American politics. close
