President Clinton participated in a ceremony after dark honoring the arrival of the U.S. Olympic torch at the White House on its way to the Olympic Games in Atlanta. He made no substantive remarks. He was accompanied by first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and Vice President and Mrs. Gore. The president escorted the torch bearer onto the stage to light the flame and then greeted persons in the crowd. close
