At a conference to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, Professor Trent compared two recent Supreme Court cases, including Adarand v. Pena, with the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of 1896 which established the separate but equal doctrine. She argued that there was little real difference in these decisions in their impact on the African-American community. She also talked about how she educates her students about the debate over affirmative action. After her prepared remarks, the group took questions from the audience. close
