Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Pleszcynski discussed current events, including President Clinton’s initiative against tobacco advertising to youth. In the next segment, Mr. Phillips talked about his party’s four main issues, including abortion, U.S. participation in international organizations, reducing the authority of the federal government to the strict letter of the Constitution and abolishing all direct taxes. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Goodin and Mr. Mellman discussed the presidential campaign, especially the latest polls and several campaign issues. In the last segment, Mr. Fornek previewed the Democratic Convention and press coverage of it. close
