President Bill Clinton presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award to eleven persons. Mark Udall accepted the medal for his father, former Senator Udall (D-AZ). The Medal is the highest civilian award in the U.S. The first lady and cabinet secretaries were present in the audience. President Clinton talked about the history of the Medal and its meaning and then described the accomplishments of each recipient, followed by the presentation of his or her medal.
