In honor of National Constitution Week, former Governor Lowell Weicker spoke about interpreting and amending the Constitution. He emphasized that the Constitution is too valuable to be amended on political whims in order to substitute legal bindings for the political will to meet the nation’s challenges. He also critiqued several proposed amendments, including those for balancing the budget, for allowing prayer in public schools and for prohibiting flag desecration. After his remarks, he took questions from the audience. close
