In a special session, government ministers spoke to members about the Conservative government’s proposal to ban almost all types of handguns for virtually all citizens. It would allow citizens to have small caliber and single-shot weapons kept at gun clubs under strict security measures. This legislation is the result of a government inquiry into handgun control policy after a man shot 16 students to death at a school in Dunblane, Scotland. A group of parents of these children and the Labour party had lobbied for a total ban on handguns. close
