The recipient of the first Chief Justice Rehnquist Award for Judicial Excellence went to state judge Vincent Poppiti. Attorney General Reno praised the National Center for State Courts and its support of state judges. She also spoke in support of preventive measures to prevent violence and child neglect. Chief Justice Rehnquist explained the history and meaning of the award and presented it to Judge Poppiti, who spoke briefly. close
