Committee members heard testimony from Director Deutch in a year-end review of intelligence activities. In his statement, Deutch outlined the many improvements in the CIA over his twenty-month tenure, include better counter-intelligence and better relations with top policy makers. Much of the questioning focused on whether Deutch thought Anthony Lake, the president’s choice to succeed him, was qualified and ready to provide objective analyses of national security issues to the administration and allegations about CIA drug trafficking. close
