At a two-day conference the upcoming Supreme Court term, law professors and Supreme Court reporters discussed the legal issues surrounding doctor-assisted suicide. The two main constitutional issues are whether there is such a right under the 14th Amendment and whether the state should distinguish between those who ask their physician to help them die and those who designate that life support equipment not be used before they are incapacitated. The Court will hear cases from New York and Washington on this issue. close
