Clinton administration officials released a seven-page plan for how the federal government will deal with the issues of medicinal uses for marijuana and other illegal drugs. Doctors who issue prescriptions for such drugs could lose their prescription-writing privileges, but scientific agencies will also continue to investigate whether drugs such as marijuana benefit terminally ill patients. This action was taken in response to ballot initiatives in Arizona and California that would allow doctors to prescribe marijuana for medicinal purposes. They took questions from the press. close
