The Senate Labor and Human Resources Subcommittee on Education held hearings on S. 695, to promote excellence in American education by recognizing and rewarding schools, teachers, and students for their outstanding achievements, and encouraging the study of science, mathematics, and engineering. The Department of Education’s efforts to reduce defaults in the Stafford Student Loan program was also discussed. The Secretary of Education Lauro Cavazos was among the witnesses who testified and answered questions. close
