The Senate agreed to S. Res. 142, condemning the brutal use of force by authorities of the People’s Republic of China against unarmed advocates of democracy and human rights in China. This followed the crackdown following the demonstrations in Tiananmen Square. The Senate resumed consideration of H.R. 2072, making dire emergency supplemental appropriations and transfers, urgent supplementals and correcting enrollment errors for fiscal year ending September 30, 1989. close
