Republican congressional leaders announced their budget agreement with President Bill Clinton. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Mississippi) made the announcement to the Republican legislators and others gathered in Statuary Hall. They applauded the efforts of both the congressional and White House negotiators and stressed how the budget will help citizens in their daily lives. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-Georgia), Senate Budget Committee Chairman Senator Pete Domenici (R-New Mexico), and House Budget Committee Chairman Congressman John Kasich (R-Ohio) also spoke. close
