The United States Senate considered campaign finance reform, disaster relief, and military funding for Bosnia/Iraq operations. They voted on an amendment to the disaster relief bill offered by Senator Robert Byrd, D-WV, that would delete the “Government Shutdown Prevention Act,” and fund government programs if Fiscal Year 1998 spending bills didn’t become law by the October 1 deadline. They also voted on another amendment to the disaster relief bill offered by Senator Phil Gramm, R-TX. close
