Discussed are major trends in the previous Court term. Flag desecration (Texas v. Johnson) and dial-a-porn services (Sable Communications v. FCC) were both protected under the First Amendment. The ramifications of Webster v. Reproductive Health Services on the future of the abortion issue are raised. Civil rights issues are addressed in a review of employment discrimination cases such as Wards Cove Packing, Inc. v. Antonio. In these decisions, the burden of proof of discrimination was shifted to the employee. Also, conservative trends, 5-4 decisions, and individual justices are all examined in analyzing the Court over the last term. close
