Joined by Secretary Riley and several disabled persons, President Clinton signed the Individuals with Disabilities Education reauthorization act of 1997. This bill renews a law first enacted in 1975 which guarantees equal access to education for disabled persons. In his remarks, the president stressed that this legislation is not only a continuation of this law, but an improvement upon it, because it provides more funding to help people with disabilities have as many educational opportunities as possible. close
