The Judiciary Committee held its second hearing on the tobacco settlement. Members heard testimony from several attorneys general and some opponents of the settlement. Under the current settlement, which requires congressional approval, lawsuits against tobacco corporations would be dropped and the corporations would pay $368 billion in penalties. close
