Subcommittee members heard testimony regarding the state of public schools in the District of Columbia. Reform measures such as school choice for low-income students and school management were described. Rep. Armey talked about his support for school choice for low-income families in the District of Columbia. Mr. Amos and Ms. Allen talked about tying the public schools to public housing and examples of other school districts who have reformed their districts. Mr. Maclaury, Gen. Becton and Gen. Williams talked about the current conditions in the schools and their recommendations for alleviating the problems. close
