On July 2, 1964, President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. On the 50th anniversary C-SPAN Radio airs some of LBJ’s calls leading up to Congress passing the legislation, and on the day he signed the bill into law. Also LBJ’s nationally televised speech at the ceremony.
