President Clinton honored the nine people who were the first black students at Little Rock Central High School on the fortieth anniversary of their enrollment. In 1957, President Eisenhower deployed the Army to escort the nine students into the school after the governor of Arkansas attempted to deny the students admission by using the state’s National Guard. close
