Prime Minister of Japan, Noboru Takeshita, discussed Japanese initiatives in the areas of economic relations with the U.S., problems of developing countries, and defense. In his speech, Prime Minister Takeshita stressed that it was his goal for Japan contribute more to the world. The Prime Minister answered audience questions.

Prime Minister Takeshita became prime minister in November 1987.
