The committee conducted a third hearing on death penalty legislation. The proceedings focused on race discrimination and capital sentencing decisions in jurisdictions throughout the United States. Legal expert studies were presented to reveal that defendants who kill whites are more likely to receive the death penalty than defendants who kill blacks. Black defendants are more likely than white defendants to receive the death penalty. close
