Chinese President Jiang Zemin spoke about recent trends in Chinese domestic and foreign policies. He outlined Chinese principles on issues such as the social market economy and human rights and stressed the defensive nature of Chinese foreign policy. However, he also warned that if China does not develop economically it would be a catastrophe for the entire world. He concluded with remarks about his talks with President Clinton and the state of U.S.-China relations. Translation of his remarks was by voiceover. close
