The discussion focused on cases for the upcoming term. Three

abortion cases, Hodgson v. Minnesota; [Ohio v. Akron Center for

Reproductive Health]; Turnock v. Ragsdale; and a right-to-die

case, Cruzan v. Director, Missouri Department of Health, will come

before the Court. Justice Stevens has excused himself from [Turnock

v. Ragsdale], a move which could affect the outcome. In another

case, a white defendant claims his trial was unfair because there

were no blacks on the jury.

Other discussion topics included: how the Court chooses which cases

it will hear; how split decisions affect relationships between

justices; and how the retirement of a justice affects the court. close
