St. Louis University Law School Professor Barry Cushman lectured on the life and times of Charles Evans Hughes, who served as Chief Justice from 1930-41. Chief Justice Hughes was originally appointed as an Associate Justice by President Taft and eventually left the Court to run for the Republican presidential nomination. He lost and returned to the Court in 1930. This lecture was part of a series of the Court in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. close
