Born in Cuba in 1941, he came to the U.S. to attend high school in Pennsylvania to fulfill dreams of becoming an engineer. However, after witnessing the rise of Fidel Castro in his native land he dedicated his life to opposing communism. As a CIA operative, he was involved in the ill-fated Bay of Pigs operation. In the following years he was involved in the tracking of the revolutionary Che Guevara. In this interview Rodriguez offers his first-hand account of capturing Guevara in Bolivia and his conversation with him before Guevara’s execution. Also, Rodriguez discusses his more recent testimony before the Iran-Contra committee in 1987. He states that part of his motivation for writing the book (co-authored with John Weisman) is to tell his side of the story.
