General Dunford Stresses "Campaign Continuity" in Syria

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Joseph Dunford says now that the ground once held by ISIS has been cleared, the remaining U.S. forces in Syria will "transition to a stabilization phase...and train local forces to provide security and prevent the regeneration of ISIS." While he declines to discuss the specific number of troops that will stay behind in Syria, General Dunford stresses that he's "confident" the U.S. can "maintain the campaign," saying, "This is about campaign continuity." His comments come ahead of bilateral talks with Turkish defense officials. close
