    Jillian Berman on Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

    Jillian Berman talked about the future of student loan forgiveness for public servants. The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, signed into law in 2007 by former President George W. Bush, allows borrowers who work in public service to have their loans forgiven after 10 years if they make payments for the entire decade. Topics included the types of public service positions that qualify.

    This program was part of C-SPAN’s “Your Money” series. Each Monday morning a portion of “Washington Journal” is devoted to a federal program, focusing on its mission, participants, and cost.

    Institute of International Finance Policy Summit, Tax Policy

    Key House and Senate staff members talked about the likelihood of major tax policy changes in 2017 as well as the various tax options and political implications. Speakers included the senior tax counsel to House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and the Senate Finance Committee’s chief tax counsel. Joining them was former Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Holtz-Eakin, who also served as the chief economist on the White House Council of Economic Advisors during the George W. Bush administration.

    The forum was part of an all-day conference of the Institute of International Finance.
