    Former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove

    Former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove talked about her career as a writer and why she believes the arts are important. Ms. Dove served as poet laureate from 1993 to 1995. She is also recipient of numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Price and the National Medal of Arts.

    C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2017 LCV Cities Tour” in Charlottesville, Virginia, from March 18-24 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2.

    Blanche Wiesen Cook, author of Eleanor Roosevelt, Volume 3: The War Years and After, 1939-1962; Leigh Fought, author of Women in the World of Frederick Douglass; Lisa Napoli, author of Ray and Joan: The Man Who Made McDonald’s Fortune and the Woman Who Gave It All Away; and Susan Quinn, author of Eleanor and Hick: The Love Affair That Shaped a First Lady, talked about writing biographies. They spoke at the 22nd annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.
