Former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels (R), who serves on the Commission on Presidential Debates and is also president of Purdue University, talked about the upcoming debates and their importance, as well as other topics related to the 2016 campaign.

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) talked about his experiences as a Navy pilot during the Vietnam War. Senator McCain was captured by the North Vietnamese in 1967, and was held as a prisoner of war (POW) for over five years. He spoke about a few of his “near-death” experiences and what it was like to be held captive during the war. He was interviewed by Michele Kelly, director of Oral History for Battleship Cove.

This oral history interview took place on January 29, 2003, and is part of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Congress established the Veterans History Project in 2000 as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. The project collects oral histories from veterans around the country and makes them accessible to the public.
