Michael Eric Dyson discussed the latest developments in the 2016 presidential campaign, as well as his recent New Republic editorial calling for an organized march on the Republican National Convention in Cleveland to protest the nomination of presumptive 2016 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

The Democratic National Convention Committee’s Platform Drafting Committee held a hearing on what should be included in the party’s platform for the July 2016 convention in Philadelphia. They heard from party officials and policy experts.

Former Governor Ronald Reagan made remarks in favor of the 1976 Republican ticket and platform. Governor Reagan was narrowly defeated for the nomination by President Gerald Ford. During the extended applause and demonstrations following his acceptance speech, President Ford waved former Governor Reagan down to the podium for the impromptu remarks. This was part of an NBC broadcast.

This program included highlights of CBS News coverage from the last contested Republican convention. The 1976 Republican National Convention met from August 16 to August 19 in Kansas City, Missouri. President Gerald Ford and former California Governor Ronald Reagan were in a close race for the nomination, and neither had a majority of delegates when the convention began. This program includes coverage from August 17, 1976, including delegates debating a rule proposed by the Reagan camp requiring President Ford to name his vice president before voting began to name the party’s presidential nominee.

Amy Goodman, author of Democracy Now!: Twenty Years Covering the Movements Changing America interviewed Adam Cohen about his book, Imbeciles: The Supreme Court, American Eugenics, and the Sterilization of Carrie Buck.

They spoke at Jones College Preparatory High School at the 2016 Chicago Tribune Printers Row Lit Fest. The program concluded with scenes of the festival and schedule information.

Amy Goodman, the host and executive producer of the Democracy Now! radio show, spoke at the closing plenary session of the annual Left Forum. She talked about politics, the 2016 presidential election, climate change, and the media.

Tamara Draut talked about her book Sleeping Giant: How the New Working Class Will Transform America, in which she examines America’s working class and income inequality. She was interviewed by Amy Goodman.

Author, consumer advocate, and former presidential candidate Ralph Nader was among the speakers in a seminar on community organizing and civic mobilization. Speakers, many using audio-visual aids, talked about their personal or organizational struggles to change some aspect of government, regulation, or the law, and ways their own experiences could serve as helpful touchstones to other community leaders.
