Dr. Ron Paul is an obstetrician who represented Texas’s 14th Congressional District from 1997-2013 and its 22nd District from 1979-1985. He was the Libertarian Party presidential candidate in 1988 and ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and 2012. He is a senior fellow at the Mises Institute and currently runs the Ron Paul Channel on the Internet.

    He told students of their obligation to advance the cause of liberty and personal freedoms by using current technology such as the Internet to spread ideas. He also commented on current issues including the actions of whistleblowers Edward Snowden and Bradley Manning, and the closing of U.S. embassies and consulates due to terrorist threats.     Financial Stability Oversight Council Report

    Treasury Secretary Geithner testified on the annual report of the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC), created by the Dodd-Frank financial regulations law to monitor excessive risk taking and instability in the financial system. Secretary Geither said that the biggest threat to the U.S. economy was the European debt crisis. Many members' questions focused on Secretary Geithner’s handling during his tenure as head of the New York Federal Reserve of the scandal surrounding the London Interbank Offered Rate’s (LIBOR) manipulation of interest rates.
