Senator Angus King (I-ME), a co-sponsor of Senator Susan Collins' (R-ME) gun control legislation, spoke about the bill and commented on the sit-in staged by House Democrats.

Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) criticized House Democrats for their sit-in to force House Republicans to allow a vote on gun control legislation, calling it a fundraising stunt. He also mentioned news reports of a shooting in a movie theater in Viernheim, Germany.

Representative John Lewis (D-GA) and other House Democrats spoke to reporters and supporters outside the Capitol after ending the sit-in in the House over gun control legislation that lasted nearly 26 hours.

Labor Secretary Thomas Perez delivered remarks at the annual conference of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO). He commented on Supreme Court rulings involving affirmative action and President Obama’s executive actions on immigration and other issues. Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti (R-IL), who was elected as the nation’s first female Hispanic lieutenant governor, spoke first.

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) spoke about the Supreme Court decision blocking the president’s immigration plan.

Senator Susan Collins (R-ME)s spoke prior to a vote to table her bipartisan gun control proposal. She implored senators to vote against tabling the bill, and explained why her plan would work. She was followed by Senators Kaine (D-VA), Mikulski (D-MD), Flake (R-AZ), King (I-ME), Heinrich (D-NM), and Heitkamp (D-ND).
