The debate was organized by the League of Women Voters of Virginia and AARP Virgina and broadcast live by Richmond PBS affiliate WCVE and CBS affiliate WTVR. The debate took place at the WCVE-TV studio in Midlothian.

Defense Secretary Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Joseph Dunford briefed reporters on the night’s U.S. military action in Syria, which was conducted in response to a chemical attack on civilians in the city of Douma the previous weekend.
