Donald Trump, the presumptive 2016 Republican presidential nominee, held a campaign rally at the Redding Municipal Airport in Redding, California. He attacked his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton questioning her fitness to be president, and commented on the violent protests that occurred outside his rally the previous night in San Jose. He also discussed other issues such as immigration, trade policy, rebuilding the military, and combating ISIL*. California, along with New Jersey, New Mexico, South Dakota and Montana would hold their primary elections June 7, 2016. North Dakota would hold Democratic caucuses.

*The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS or DAISH/DAESH in Arabic), is a militant group that has called itself the Islamic State.

Acting Chief Ronald Vitiello talked about the U.S. Border Patrol’s work to protect the nation’s borders and prevent illegal immigration into the U.S.

Mark Toner briefed reporters and responded to their questions on a variety of international topics. Topics included pressure from Congress to re-open the investigation of someone in the State Department’s public affairs bureau who deliberately edited video of a 2013 press briefing. Mr. Toner told reporters that the department had “exhausted their efforts to look into the incident.”
