Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, made a major foreign policy address at a campaign event at the Prado at Balboa Park Ballroom in San Diego, California. She laid out her national security vision for keeping Americans safe at home and continuing to play a leading role on the world stage. She contrasted her views with what she saw as the Republican vision for national security and especially the dangers of having Donald Trump as president.

President Obama delivered the commencement address to the U.S. Air Force Academy class of 2016. He spoke of his appreciation for the Air Force as well as the other military branches, and talked about the national security lessons he learned over the course of his presidency. Following his speech, the president handed out diplomas to the graduates.

Bob Cash talked about his view that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has been bad for American and Mexican workers, as well the U.S. and Mexican economies.

State Department Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism Justin Siberell spoke to reporters ahead of the daily briefing. He talked about the annual congressionally-mandated State Department Country Reports on Terrorism 2015 released that day. According to the report, the total number of terrorist attacks in 2015 decreased by 13 percent and the total deaths due to terrorist attacks decreased by 14 percent compared to 2014. The terrorist attacks were heavily concentrated geographically with 55 percent of all attacks taking place in iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Syria, and Pakistan. He responded to questions from the reporters.
