The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee met to consider and mark up legislation to censure Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen for his conduct during the investigation into the IRS' alleged targeting of conservative groups seeking tax exempt status. Committee Chair Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) said the resolution was necessary because Commissioner Koskinen did not fully comply with a congressional subpoena or testify truthfully before Congress. The censure resolution calls for Mr. Koskinen’s resignation and the forfeiture of his federal pension. The committee voted 23-15 to pass the censure resolution and report it favorably to the House floor.

National Park Service (NPS) Director Jonathan Jarvis testified at a hearing on an Inspector General’s report on alleged sexual misconduct by NPS workers at Canaveral National Seashore. Mr. Jarvis addressed the allegations and discussed his department’s efforts to prevent sexual harassment. Committee members accused Mr. Jarvis of not taking appropriate action on numerous sexual harassment claims. The Interior Department’s deputy solicitor general also appeared at the hearing.

The House Judiciary Committee heard testimony, including video from Oversight Committee Chair Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) on his committee’s investigation into alleged targeting by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of conservative groups seeking tax exempt status in 2014. Representative Chaffetz urged for the impeachment of the IRS commissioner. House Oversight Subcommittee on National Security Chair Ron DeSantis (R-FL) also testified. The committee invited Commissioner Koskinen to testify, but he did not appear and his written statement was not made part of the record.

Stanley Meiburg testified at a hearing on the Environmental Protection Agency’s response to previous cases involving sexual misconduct, theft and other allegations. The assistant EPA inspector general also appeared, commenting on the impact that policy changes at the EPA have had, including the new limits of administration leave an employee can take.
