Constitutional scholars examine how each president has related to the Constitution and how their respective tenures have affected the document. Panelists included Ken Gormley, editor of The Presidents and the Constitution; Barbara Perry, director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center; Kenneth Starr, chancellor of Baylor University; and Michael Gerhardt, constitutional law professor at the University of North Carolina.

Former presidential aides discussed the roles of Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon during the Vietnam War era. They were joined by historian to explore the foreign policy of each president as well as the emotional burden they faced during the conflict.

“Commanders-in-Chief ” was a panel at a three-day “Vietnam War Summit” held at the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin, Texas.

H.W. Brands, author of Reagan: The Life and Thomas Mallon, author of Finale: A Novel of the Reagan Years, talked about their books on Ronald Reagan.

“Reagan: A Life in Fact and Fiction” took place at the fourth annual San Antonio Book Festival, held on April 2, 2016, and was filmed in the auditorium of the San Antonio Central Library.

Jeffrey Rosen spoke about on the influence of former Chief Justice John Marshall, who served from 1801-1835. Mr. Rosen talked about the ideological differences between Justice Marshall and President Thomas Jefferson, and Marshall’s influence on later Supreme Court Justices. Chief Justice John Roberts provided introductory remarks.

Sanford Levinson talked about his book An Argument Open to All: Reading “The Federalist” in the 21st Century, in which he looks at the political thinking of the framers of the Constitution. He spoke at the second annual Bill of Rights Day Book Festival at the National Constitution Center.
