    Senate Session

    The Senate approved a short-term spending bill to avert a government shutdown. The measure funds the government through December 16. 2022, and would next to the House for consideration. Members also approved two nominations: Andrea Freeman to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Lisa Gomez for assistant labor secretary for the Employee Benefits Security Administration

    U.N. Security Council Meeting on Ukraine

    U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken joined more than 20 of his counterparts at a United Nations Security Council meeting to discuss alleged Russian war crimes committed against Ukrainians, as well as the security of Ukraine. The meeting came amid threats from Russian President Vladimir Putin to use nuclear weapons and his call for more troops to the conflict zone. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba responded to Putin: “Yesterday, Putin announced mobilization. But what he really announced before the whole world was his defeat. You can draft 300--500,000 people, but you will never win this war.”

    Georgia Governor Kemp Coronavirus News Conference

    Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) updated the state’s response efforts to the coronavirus pandemic. This includes new executive orders extending the state’s shelter in place order through April 30th and the public health emergency declaration to May 13th. Gov. Kemp also announced that short term vacation rentals will no longer be permitted. He stressed that this however does not apply to hotels and motels.
