Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture

LIVE Sunday, February 19, 2017 - 6pm-8:30pm ET

American History TV on C-SPAN 3

Then-President Obama and former President George W. Bush were on hand this last September to officially open the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture. Since then, some 750,000 visitors have streamed through the museum's doors - and advance tickets are spoken for through April.

On Sunday, February 19, American History TV will take you inside the museum on Washington, DC's National Mall for a special look at exhibit galleries chronicling the African American story from slavery through the inauguration of the first African American president. And we'll see a selection of artifacts, including a South Carolina slave cabin, Harriet Tubman's hymnal, a segregated railroad passenger car, a trumpet owned by Louis Armstrong, and the leather couch from the Oprah Winfrey Show set.

We'll also take viewer calls and tweets with our guests:

  • 6pm: Lonnie Bunch, Director, National Museum of African American History & Culture
  • 7pm: Mary Elliott, Museum Specialist, National Museum of African American History & Culture
  • 8pm: William Pretzer, Curator, National Museum of African American History & Culture

The entire program re-airs at 10pm ET February 19 and again on Presidents Day, Monday, February 20 at 8am and 8pm ET, all on C-SPAN3.
