American History TV will be LIVE from Spotsylvania, Virginia, on Saturday, August 5, 2017, for all-day coverage of a symposium hosted by the "Emerging Civil War" blog. The theme is "Great Defenses of the Civil War" with historians looking at defensive strategies employed by the Union and Confederate armies. Battles covered include Gettysburg, Second Manassas, Antietam, North Anna River and Stones River as well as the Siege of Vicksburg.

Speakers include Chris Mackowski, "Emerging Civil War" blog co-founder & author of " Strike Them a Blow: Battle along the North Anna River, May 21-25, 1864;" Eric Wittenberg, author of "The Devil’s to Pay: John Buford at Gettysburg. Kolakowski, author of "The Stones River and Tullahoma Campaigns: This Army Does Not Retreat."
